🚨 ARDMS Certification Update: SKILLS Platform Coming in 2026

If you’ve seen the latest ARDMS update, you already know: starting January 1, 2026, every RDMS, RDCS, RVT, and RMSKS will need to complete four quizzes per specialty each year through the SKILLS Platform to maintain certification.

👉 The idea: confirm our competency with short, specialty-specific quizzes.

👉 The change: CMEs will be slightly reduced in recognition of the time spent on SKILLS.

👉 The frustration: another hoop to jump through on top of busy schedules, patient loads, and annual fees.

I get it, I really do - I hold a lot of specialty credentials under the RDMS, RDCS and RVT umbrella's, so this hits me too. Sonographers are already stretched thin, balancing patient care, imaging excellence, CME requirements, and now… another layer of testing.

But here’s the flip side: 💙

This isn’t just about checking a box. It’s a reminder of what makes our profession incredible — our commitment to lifelong learning, patient safety, and excellence in imaging.

At the end of the day, while no quiz defines the passion and precision you bring to every scan, we know that when education and skilsets improve, patient outcomes improve too. You prove your skills daily — whether it’s catching a life-threatening aneurysm, guiding a complex biopsy, or bringing peace of mind to an expectant parent.

✨ Sonographers are more than credential holders. We are image makers, life changers, and advocates for accuracy. ✨

So yes — SKILLS will be one more thing to juggle. But together, we’ll keep showing up, proving our value, and raising the standard for the profession we love.
